Playmaker’s Top Three Adverts From The Superbowl

On Sunday 3 February, crowds of American football fans gathered as the New England Patriots beat the Los Angeles Rams in Atlanta, Georgia for the 2019 Super Bowl.

For us Brits, the sporting occasion tends to be a fair more extravagant affair than what we are used to at the Rugby or at the FA Cup. However, what unites us with our friends across the pond is our mutual love of the Super Bowl adverts. In the past decade, Super Bowl adverts have become some of the biggest attractions and talking points of the show. At $5 million, securing an advertising slot on Americas biggest sporting event doesn’t come cheap but the payoff can not only increase a businesses stock price and sales, but It also sets a precedent for how advertisements should be done!

With this in mind, here’s Playmaker’s favourite American Football Advertising so far.

Serena Williams is on her way to becoming the biggest tennis player in history, with just one Grand Slam away from tying Margaret Court's record of 24 Grand Slam victories. Bumble’s 30-second clip sees the inspiring sports model standing on a tennis court bouncing a tennis ball as she encourages women to embrace power.

Rather than show a straight season 8 trailer, Game of Thrones teamed up with Bud Light to create a Bud Knight jousting tournament. As the sporting event comes to a brutal end, a dragon comes blazing from above. While it’s not your typical football advertising, there’s no denying it got everyone talking!

Once again, the NFL is crushing its own game in advertising. This year saw the NFL celebrate with a gala for more than 40 current and former NFL players, including Tom Brady and Baker Mayfield. Carnage quickly erupts as a football falls to floor, with a lot of sports action choreography and players throwing each other across the room.

As a sports advertising consultancy, we understand the importance of effective sports action choreography to make sure your brand message is portrayed effectively, and your vision is brought to life.
